What would you do if you woke up one morning and a 40 foot cell antenna was intstalled outside of your home...
SW corner of Merrick Ave and Brook Park Drive in So. Merrick. This new type of cell antennae and box ("DAS" or Distributed Antennae System) went up on utility poles all over Long Island. They were put up by Next G serving Metro PCS, many of them right outside bedroom windows and schools. | NY Town enacts tough cell tower limits

Andrew Campanelli, an attorney for residents fighting to restrict cell towers, said Newsday's analysis showed the town's law comes too late. "People are going to be shocked to hear how many there are near schools," he said. "Nothing like closing the barn door after the horses are out. They are patting themselves on the back for what? The antennas are up."

| DID YOU KNOW that MetroPCS phone company and NextG put radiation emitting cell antennas on top of Verizon Telephone Poles right here in our town? They sit only footsteps away from the playgrounds at BIRCH, LAKESIDE, CHATTERTON, and FAYETTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AS WELL AS CALHOUN HIGH SCHOOL? So far, homeowners and outraged parents have been unable to have them removed despite over 400 letters, protests, and fears over health concerns.
Others were placed in front of homes overnight. According to an attorney from NextG who spoke at a civic association meeting, they emit radiation 800 feet in every direction. Did you know that in Bayville, Long Island, there is a Water Tower near the elementary school with multiple cell antennas on it? There is a lawsuit to have them removed. 30% of the staff and children are sick. Many have CANCER and 3 children have died. Did you know that CELL ANTENNAS ARE PROHIBITED to be near schools and homes in many other areas of the United States and internationally as a result of regulations set by entities such as the School Boards of Los Angeles, Oregon, and Vancouver, The California State PTA, town boards in places such as Maryland and Connecticut, as well as the rulings by the French High Court and the European Parliament? This is due to concerns about possible links between EMF emissions and childhood cancer. Did you know that PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA has set up a cancer panel to research the possible link between cancer and Electro-Magnetic Frequency (EMF) emitted by Cell Phone Towers and that the American Academy of Pediatrics sites CONSISTENT EVIDENCE BETWEEN EMF FIELDS AND CHILDHOOD LEUKEMIA? Did you know that even the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS has a resolution opposing cell antennas on fire stations due to health concerns for their firefighters? Then why in MERRICK and thoughout the Town of Hempstead were cell antennas placed directly outside of our elementary schools? Our High School? Our homes? Why has every child in our school district been exposed daily to RADIATION EMITTING EMF’S SINCE JULY 2, 2009? Other states, other countries, will NOT allow their children to be Guinea Pigs for the Cell Phone Industry. The Town of Hempstead recently passed an ordinance requiring permits and strictly regulating new antennas coming into our town, especially those requested within 1500 feet of homes and schools. Unfortunately they have exempted antennas placed prior to this new ordinance of September 2010. This includes the antennas placed by every elementary school in Merrick, the one by Calhoun High School, and by several homes in our community. Why should every single elementary-aged child in Merrick as well as our families receive less protection than the rest of communities in the Town of Hempstead? The same goes for the children and families in Wantagh, Bellmore, Garden City, and other locations. There are many other sites available for these antennas that do not sit directly in front of our schools and homes. IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS PARENTS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND EDUCATORS TO GET THESE ANTENNAS MOVED! Write to Kate Murray today! |
